Closing date for applications at Rubicon Contest 2009Applications received from all over the world(Iserlohn, February 4th 2009) The application deadline for Rubicon Contest 2009 has been reached. Thirty-three teams from all over the world applied at the International Contest for Business Students. The organising team went through an extensive selection process, to ensure that the best twenty teams are invited to compete in Iserlohn from March 9th till March 11th at Rubicon 2009.
Invited were twenty teams, each consisting of four students, hence eighty participants are expected on “Campus Seilersee”, where the contest is hosted by a student initiative of the Business and Information Technology School (BiTS). The participants will be arriving in Iserlohn from all over the world. Teams from eleven countries (Germany, Great Britain, Honduras, India, Canada, Malaysia, Mexico, Spain, USA, Latvia and Cyprus) are invited to work out solutions and ideas on this year’s topic “Green Business Management”. “We are very happy about the number of submissions. This year we had a very tight schedule. Most students were informed with less than two weeks remaining till the deadline, which left very little time for forming a team and working on their application”, said Tim Teetz (21) responsible for Team Management. “Most of the applications were submitted late in the evening, and we stayed most of the evening for the selection process. The fatigue was overcome by the excitement, where the next submission would be from”, stated Alexander Geissler (20). Rike Schnittker (25): “We would have liked to invite all the teams, most of them with very creative applications, and moreover highly interesting résumés. Some of our decisions were reached after heavy debating, but still we had to reject some of those submissions.”There is still a lot of work to do. The supporting program has to be worked out, the case studies scripted, and visas issued. Furthermore the financing team is still working on contributions for the project. “We already have some sponsorship from companies like Medice from Iserlohn, Amera from Menden and the Bitburger brewery. But we hope to persuade more businesses of our concept”, said Nick Nebel (20) of partner relations. Rubicon Contest is autonomously organized by students of the Business and Information Technology School (BiTS), focusing on business students from all over the world. From March 9th till 11th will the event be hosted on “Campus Seilersee” in Iserlohn. The year the topic of the contest is “Green Business Management”. Participants are going to compete in a computer simulation, as well as case studies and business plans.
