Coming up on CNN
by Stephan Offele on February 12th 2010
With the application deadline work in the communication department has changed. In January, Carolin and I were just calling German newspapers and other media from nationwide to local publications to get the news about Rubicon Contest and the organizational team across. With the confirmation of the first participants, it changed completely.
Now, our primary targets are international. When a team confirms its participation in Rubicon Contest 2010, we start to prepare a press release with general information to send it to the team's university and local media to get coverage on the team and their commitment. Afterwards, we take the answers – we did not ask the teams just for fun – provided by the team members to prepare a team portrait to provide even further information.
Over all, it is far more difficult to get the news out. In Germany, we made our experiences and know what the media expects – and we use our mother tongue, which offers a little extra advantage. Now, we talk to so different countries and everyone has its own preference.
It was a great surprise, we got coverage after 12h in a Jordanian online newspaper – unbelievable. This is a good motivation to see that there is a lot interest in Rubicon Contest and the work was really worth it.
