Searching for support
A special event requires special actions. In order to make the Rubicon Contest 2010 an unforgettable event for everybody, but especially the participants, I have been the last weeks searching for supporting companies. All companies, that might be able to support us, whether monetarily or free products (e.g. electronics, beverage, or sweets) are receiving calls from me. Quite often my requests are clearly declined, due to several reasons: some do not support associations or events and some are struggling with their financial situation.
But sometimes you get the opportunity to write a mail to the contact person to convince him or her of how much the help is needed. For sure, in some cases, I got the promise right to support us on the directly phone. Some companies were even so enthusiastic about of the event, that they recommended us to other companies.
There were also a few days, where I was turned down ten times in a row. But then, I received a positive feedback by mail or phone and this gave me the motivation to keep on calling companies. It is a very simple calculation: the more companies I call, the higher is the chance to get support.
The process itself started with reviewing what might be needed, and what companies might be able to provide – and then, I just called. As time went by I was going through newspapers, searched the web and actually went through stores to get companies' names. In the end I came up with an enormously long register of companies, what they might supply us with, and also if they supply us.
You should not only expect an exciting, interesting and challenging event, but you will also get a huge variety of snacks and cool prizes – thanks to the supporting companies. |
